I want to address a video currently circulating on social media featuring some Muslims wearing uniforms while jogging and making statements that have raised serious concerns among Christians in Nigeria. @user60780075305 Following the circulation of this video, some Christians have called on the Nigerian government and security agencies to arrest the individuals involved, arguing that statements calling for weapons to attack Christians in churches on Sundays in Enugu and Jos constitute a serious threat to peace and public safety. Others have questioned why Christians should not also be permitted to possess weapons for lawful self-defence if such threats are not adequately addressed. However, I want to make one thing clear: although these individuals are Muslims, they do not represent the entire Muslim Ummah in Nigeria. Muslims belong to different Islamic associations and groups. These individuals are reportedly associated with Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa Iqamatis Sunnah, but their statements should not be used to judge all Muslims. As a Muslim, I am equally concerned about any statement that appears to encourage religious violence. We cannot support calls to arm people to attack innocent Christians in their churches or anywhere else. I believe the government should investigate this video and take appropriate lawful action against anyone found to have made credible threats of violence. At the same time, I urge our Christian brothers and sisters not to generalize or assume that all Muslims support these statements. The actions and words of a few individuals must not become a reason for hatred against an entire religious community. I also call on the leadership of Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa Iqamatis Sunnah to address this matter and caution their members against statements that could threaten peaceful coexistence between Muslims and Christians. The teachings of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) emphasize justice, compassion, and respect for human life. Threatening innocent people because of their religion must never be justified in the name of Islam. Some may think I am speaking this way because I belong to a different Islamic association. But this is not about association or division; it is about truth, justice, and the protection of innocent lives. The government must take credible threats seriously, protect every Nigerian regardless of religion, and ensure that justice is served through the law. We must speak against wrongdoing wherever it comes from because peace and security are the rights of every Nigerian.
