VIDEO | Delhi: After the meeting of Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi with Congress' office bearers ahead of Diwali, party leader Alka Lamba says, “We had kulfi, sweets and food... and there were extensive discussions on issues concerning India and the world, the way forward and various other matters. We also shared our experiences related to Sonia Gandhi ji’s upcoming book..." When asked about Delhi pollution, she says, "Some people were coughing, and some said they were experiencing discomfort while sitting outdoors. It was difficult, but we decided to forget everything for a while... The Delhi Chief Minister had said that they were preparing a plan a year in advance and would do this and that. But those plans have come to nothing because they existed only on paper. You can inconvenience ordinary people in the name of pollution, but you cannot provide them with a solution..."
Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi recalled watching the demolition of the Babri Masjid in December 1992, saying she broke down in tears as she witnessed the mosque being razed on television. In an interview with The Guardian, Gandhi said the incident made her realise that India faced “a long battle” to preserve its secular character. Speaking to The Guardian's Hannah Ellis-Petersen ahead of the release of her memoir, Belonging: A Journey of Love, Gandhi reflected on the political and social changes unfolding in north India at the time, as the Ram Janmabhoomi movement gathered momentum. #NewsWithTN #SoniaGandhi #Babrimasjid #NS@
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma took a swipe at Rahul Gandhi and the Congress, claiming Sonia Gandhi had made several unsuccessful attempts to make her son prime minister. ⏩ Who signed a secret party-to-party MoU with the Communist Party of China in 2008? You and Sonia Gandhi. ⏩ Who went to Cambridge and London begging Western powers to intervene in Indian democracy? You. ⏩ Who takes undisclosed, untracked foreign trips every time parliament is in session or elections approach? You. And "financial system controlled by foreigners"? Under PM Modi, India built UPI (which broke the foreign monopoly of Visa/Mastercard) and made domestic retail investors (DIIs/SIPs) the backbone of our economy. Every time the people of India reject your relaunch, the excuse gets more absurd: First the EVMs, then institutions, then SIR, and now 1.4 billion voters are a puppet show run by foreigners? This time i actually want to know, what'd you actually smoke? 😂 https://t.co/MRvBNpl7Jz
Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi has accused the BJP-led government of causing significant damage to India’s democratic fabric and institutions over the past 12 years. In an interview with The Hindu ahead of the November 10 launch of her memoir, Belonging: A Journey of Love, Gandhi said restoring the country’s systems would require time and considerable effort from political parties. She also alleged that the Opposition had not had a level playing field, accusing the government of exercising control over institutions, including the Election Commission, and mainstream media. Gandhi further claimed that several elections had been stolen and said people were becoming increasingly aware of it. The BJP hit back, questioning the Congress over the Emergency imposed in 1975, when civil liberties were curtailed, opposition leaders were jailed and press censorship was imposed. The exchange has triggered a fresh political confrontation over democracy, institutional independence and the parties’ respective records in government.
