Save this for your Acatenango hike 🌋 👚 WHAT TO WEAR • Layers are the most important as the temperature varies a lot • Base layer - I actually had a vest for the hotter weather • Fleece or warm mid-layer • Down or insulated jacket • Waterproof jacket • A waterproof poncho • Hat, gloves and a buff for the summit at sunrise 🥾 ON YOUR FEET • Broken-in hiking boots with good grip • Thick hiking socks plus a spare dry pair for camp 🎒 IN YOUR BAG • Day bag with waist strap & waterproof cover • Minimum 3 litres of water • Snacks • Head torch for the pre-dawn summit push • Walking poles, a lifesaver on the way down • Sunscreen and sunglasses, because the sun is strong at altitude • Power bank • Toilet paper and a small bag to pack out rubbish • Cash for the entrance fee and any extras 📌 WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW • It's not an easy hike, especially with the altitude, so only attempt it if you've got a least a moderate level of fitness • Don't litter! That should be a given but sadly we saw litter on the trails • It gets very cold at night. Bring plenty of layers and spare clothes in case you get wet • It's a long way back down so bring any medication you might need with you
