California fined a Malibu couple $4,185,000 over a beach gate they didn’t even build. Their “crime”? Keeping a gate that protected the public from a 20-foot drop onto a drainage pipe. The fine was so brutal they had to SELL their home to help pay it. When Warren and Henny Lent bought the house in 2002, the deck, the stairs and the gate were already there. Five years later, the California Coastal Commission demanded they rip all three out. Why? A previous owner had agreed to public beach access back in 1978, and the gate stood in the way. The Lents even handed the state a KEY so officials could open the gate any time they wanted. It wasn’t enough. Then in 2014, the legislature gave the commission the power to fine property owners up to $11,250 PER DAY. Two years later, it used that power to do the unthinkable: NARRATOR: “They retroactively fined them for all 744 days that had elapsed since the Lents were informed their violation could expose them to financial penalties. The ultimate fine was a staggering and disproportionate $4.185 million.” After the hearing, the Lents offered to take the gate down the very next day. The state told them to wait a few months. Why? It needed time to get its OWN gate ready. The moment the old gate came down, the state put a new one up. Pacific Legal Foundation took the fight all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court. The Court wouldn’t even hear the case. WARREN LENT: “When you sit down and the dust settles, you say, ‘What did Warren and Henny Lent do?’ They bought a house on the beach to fulfill a lifelong dream. That’s all we did.” Years later, the 2025 Palisades fire burned the home to the ground. The only thing left standing was that damned gate.
i was poor af in school and needed sexual relief. i had no money for hotel so i couldn’t even waste my time wooing a girl because it would lead nowhere. it would only make me hornier. then one day, i took a small cacatin container, washed it well until that minty smell was gone and filled it up with nivea and told my guy i wanted to stroll to faculty of arts to use wifi to download movies. he said he wanted to follow me to use the wifi too and from unilag gate, we took cab to faculty of arts. when we got there, i told him i wanted to use the toilet and he just laughed and said he saw me filling up the container with cream and called me a useless boy. he followed me upstairs and stood outside so he’ll text me when someone was entering the toilet. the wifi wasn’t reaching the toilet stalls properly and my visual tools kept on buffering. he turned on his hotspot for me. there’s no situation more embarrassing than this and he still lent me a hand. i will never forget this. https://t.co/EB2ZmRxvZ4
The last load of packaging steel left for Russia on March 23, 2023. Four days later that steel went under EU sanctions. So says Martti Lemendik, boss of Metaprint, the Estonian firm Stark Logistics drove for. He also put a figure on the sales: 29,817,709 euros on the Russian market between the invasion and August 2023. He says that was how the firm got its credit back out of Russia, about two-thirds of roughly 10 million euros. The factory at the end of the road has its own paper trail. OOO Aeroprom in St Petersburg is formally owned by an Estonian micro-firm with assets below 30,000 euros, and the owner of that micro-firm is Metaprint's finance chief. The plant turns over about 20 million euros a year. Metaprint's own website still lists a 2013 "new aerosol container production plant in Saint Petersburg, Russia." The daily Eesti Paevaleht also went through Metaprint's partners. It found a supplier of tear gas to Russia's Interior Ministry and a firm of an oligarch under sanctions in Poland and Ukraine. That is the client's partner list, not Stark's cargo. What Kallas did next is a story of its own. She skipped a joint session of parliament's committees, and the big dailies condemned it. At the Anti-Corruption Select Committee she stopped handing over documents and called it "a political court of your own." Parliament then voted 52 to 16 against an investigation committee. President Alar Karis said he would personally have preferred her to resign. She apologised "to anyone who was hurt by this", then added that she was "responsible for the moral judgements I passed." To be exact: no sanctions breach was found, and Estonia's security service said so. Kallas says she did not know until that week, her husband says the same, and nothing published shows otherwise. The 1.5 million is the company's revenue, not profit, and the 29.8 million belongs to the client. Her 350,000 euro loan went to his investment firm and was repaid with interest. 69 percent is one poll, another had 57. The hearing question came from Alexander Sell of the AfD. Not every EU leader backed her: Meloni voted against, Orban abstained. #kajakallas #eu #estonia #russia #sanctions
Crazy how the fish filet is so trendy right now. I remember we ate these on Fridays during lent lol.
Nvidia is now 8% of the S&P 500, double what Cisco was at the top of the dot com bubble, and it's making the EXACT same mistake. Cisco lent money to the telecoms buying its gear in 2000 because they couldn't pay for it any other way, and when those telecoms went bust, Cisco lost 89% and the S&P 500 lost half its value. Nvidia is doing the same thing today, guaranteeing its customers' leases and buying stakes in the very companies that buy its chips. The more it sells, the more it's on the hook when those customers can't pay. THIS IS THE BIGGEST MISALLOCATION OF CAPITAL IN HISTORY https://t.co/a0sNeqlFpD
